Booking Through Rewrite

btt button
If you could rewrite the ending of any book, which book would it be? And how would you change it?

There are in fact numerous books, where I thought the ending should have been different. I know that is a different line of thought than what is asked here. Getting back, I did not like the ending of the seventh and last Harry Potter novel. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling has a nicely tied up ending which did not gel with me. The novel otherwise has some very finer points, very mathematical and symbolic. But making all of them grow up, marry and with children was a bit too much for me. The book somehow lost its innocence. If I had my way, I would have kept them all young. Not that I desire another one in the series but there is nothing wrong with speculations.

I say, give me a break!

The Deathly Hallows was not quite what I had expected it to be - and I had a lot of fun speculating about it beforehand... I know quite a few people were disappointed, myself I enjoyed the fact that she managed to surprise me. One of the bits that actually did not surprise me was the very end that you speak of - looking ahead into the future - because Rowling had already said in so many interviews that she intended something like that.

I've not written any entry yet for BTT, I'll have to think a bit about whether there really is a book I'd like to change the ending of. Nothing popped to mind directly as I read the question.

I only just read the first of the Harry Potter series last weekend. I hoping to eventually make my way through the series...

PS. I decided to expand a little on this comment in a post on my Harry Potter blog: http://throughmyspectrespecs.blogspot.com/2010/10/rewrite-deathly-hallows-no.html

I have never read any of the Harry Potter books. So have no comment about it one way or the other.

I'm sure there are books that I would want to end differently, but I can't think of any right now.

Oh, I really don't want to think about Harry Potter as an adult. Think I'd be disappointed in that one, too, although I haven't read beyond the first book in the series. Good answer!

I have not read this one so I can't agree or disagree. Mine is Message in a Bottle.

I'm surprised many HP fans don't resonate with the ending of this one. I'm still in Book 4 but I'm hoping to finish the series eventually.

~my reply has a spoiler for Harry Potter fans~

I wasn't a fan of the ending either, but if you don't read the epilogue than the story is great. Although I think it was very sweet what Harry and that did with the naming, but I agree with the loss of innocence because of it.

We have followed them as children growing up and going through their teens, trying to reconcile an adult character with that is a little jarring.

Great answer!
