Teaser Tuesdays: The Imposter's Daughter by Laurie Sandell

Title: The Imposter's Daughter
Author: Laurie Sandell
ISBN: 978-0316033053
Publisher: Little, Brown and Company/2009
Pages: 256

A memoir told in the graphic way, this grabs our eyeballs right from the beginning. The author has no knowledge what her father is, other than what he pretends to be and/or tells his family. Growing she discovers that his whole life is a sham and by the same virtue so is theirs. She can't accept it. She writes about her experiences in My Father, the Fraud and her whole family turns against her.

The author tells us about her childhood, growing up years in a funny, witty, cynical way. The deceptions of her father are heart wrenching and her sadness seeps into us too.

She experiences it all...sex, substance abuse and lot more and writes about all those here in a clinically detached way. A good read for all those who like memoirs. I enjoyed the writing, the graphics, the story and all. I read it for the Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon.

Thanks to the author for the copy.

Visions by Jean Koning

Title: Visions
Author: Jean Koning
Genre: Non-fiction
Pages: 152

Review from Amazon:

A European's Americanization

Visions Celebrates Absurdities Between NYC & Amsterdam

The American Way of Life is something you usually don t stop and think about. Dutch artist Jean Koning, however, noticed that his personal behaviour resembled those of popular American trends. His European standards were basically replaced by American ones. With that in his conscious mind, he started to contemplate and record his experiences in writing. His interpretations of life are now collected in the book Visions . It s a humorous book where absurdity is the main key to a colorful life. Traveling between his two houses in both Amsterdam and New York, Jean Koning wrote this speedy piece of work in between fashion week, the release party of his own album and lounging on the couch in his apartment. Wondering about the latest trends and hypes, abusing TV-shows and Hollywood-stars, he came up with a new philosophy on America.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A funny book to start with. Koning has a way with words. He has taken his own experiences and wrote those down in a witty way.
He as a columnist takes head on conspiracy theories, absurdity on TV, the behaviour of American tourists in Holland, the fear of flying into New York after 9/11. His obervations are razorsharp, and with witty insights he makes those interesting for us. He has the ability to laugh at himself. It might seem absurd at places but contains so much truth too. He speaks about world and its politics too. A humourous take on serious issues!
Rachel's Tears by Beth Nimmo and Darrell Scott
Title: Rachel's Tears
Author: Beth Nimmo and Darrell Scott
ISBN: 9781400313471
Publisher: Thomas Nelson/2008
Pages: 179
I received this book via Thomas Nelson.
Rachel Scott, a teenager was killed at a shootout on April 20, 1999, at Clumbine High School, where twelve others died aong with her. Since from very young she had believed in God and Jesus. That day before the shootout, she was eating lunch with another friend, when she was asked if she believed in God and when she affirmed, she was killed instantly.
Dealing with such a tragedy is not easy for anyone. Expecially for the family of that person, who had deep faith in God and Christianity. This book is about her faith, the jottings she made in her Diary and her way to reach out for others. Maybe this also helped her parents to deal with the tragedy and live with hope. This book is for all those who believe in the power of healing by hope, faith and belief.
Author: Lisa Alcalay Klug
ISBN: 978-0-7407-7113-2
Publisher: Andrews McMeel/2008
It is not a fiction. It has covered everything about being a Jew. With wit and humour.
How cool it is being a part of it and what to do when. It gives tips how to behave during festive seasons..both Jewish and others.
I breezed through the book, learning many things from it.
