New Author Challenge 2014 hosted by Literary Escapism

The idea behind this is to find new authors that you’ve never tried before, not necessarily ones that are debuting. They can be in your genre of choice or be brave and try something new.
Here are the guidelines:
  1. The challenge will run from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014.
  2. Since this is an author challenge, there is no restriction on choosing your novels. They can definitely be from other challenges. However, the authors must be new to you and, preferably from novels. Anthologies are a great way to try someone new, but only a third of your new authors can be from short stories/novellas or anthologies.

Welcome to the 2014 Chunkster Challenge! I’m your host, Vasilly.

Wondering what’s a chunkster? A chunkster is an adult or YA book, non-fiction or fiction, that’s 450 pages or more.

Rules for this challenge:
  • Audio books and e-books are now allowed. You want to listen to a chunkster on audio? Be my guest.
  • Essay, short story, and poetry collections are allowed but they have to be read in their entirety to count.
  • Books may crossover with other challenges.
  • Anyone can join.
  • You don’t have to list your book ahead of time.
  • Graphic novels don’t count. Sorry guys but reading a chunkster graphic novel isn’t the same as reading a non-graphic chunkster.
As I read a lot of chunksters, I can do this easily!

This is the fourth, and probably final, year of the TBR Dare.  Dakota and I started this little non-challenge four years ago and it's become something of a tradition for many of our longtime readers here at Ready When You Are, C.B.  I wasn't sure about doing it again this year, now that I've gone into semi-retirement, but when I mentioned it last week, several people commented that they were looking forward to doing it again this year so.....

We were on schedule to have a triple dare this year since last year was the double dog dare, but I'm skipping ahead to the final ultimate level of school yard dare....the triple dog dare.  There is no higher level of dare.

It's now or never.

Are you brave enough to take the dare?

The rules* are simple: read only books in your TBR pile or on your library reserve list as of January 1, 2014 for the entire months of January, February and March.  The TBR Triple Dog Dare will end on April 1, 2014.

Dive Into Poetry Challenge 2014

Dive Into Poetry Challenge 2014 hosted by  Serena M. Agusto-Cox of Savvy Verse & Wit

Choose one of the following options to complete the challenge:

1) Dip Your Toes and read up to 2 books of poetry throughout 2014 and leave the full link to each review (if you have them) in Mr. Linky.

2) Wade in and read 4-6 books of poetry throughout 2014 and leave the full links for reviews in Mr. Linky.

3) Dive in and read 7 or more books of poetry throughout 2014 and leave the full links for reviews in Mr. Linky.

I am a poet and I do read a lot of poetry. Random poetry most of the times from both well known poets and not so well known ones. I can easily "Dive in" but I am keeping my options open. I plan to read many contemporary poets and a few well known ones. Let us see how I fare!

I might as well solicit poetry books too. If you have any to spare, you can send it to me!

I might as well start listing:

1) Lost Alphabet by Lisa Olstein
2) Robert Lowell: Selected Poems
3) At the Threshold of Alchemy by John Amen
4) Poetic Musings of an Old, Fat Man by Harry E. Gilleland, Jr.
5) An Introduction to Haiku by Harold Henderson
6) Clamor by Elyse  Fenton
7) Renascence and Other Poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay
8)
The Essential Keats: Selected by Philip Levine
9 Damnatio Memoriae by Michael Meyerhofer
10) Hurrah's Nest by Arisa White
11) The Virgin Journals by Travis Laurence Naught

Freda's Voice 100+ Book Challenge 2014

I had given up on challenges as I wanted to read at my own pace and the novels I chose! However, that has only made me lag behind my reading! So this year I am opting for a few challenges. First one I choose is hosted by Freda. So here goes in her words:

Welcome to the first ever reading challenge here on Freda’s Voice that we are hosting!
I decided to do this challenge due to my love for it, and my frustrations with other blogs that have hosted it. I’m not calling anyone out, but to have a successful challenge you need to keep up to date with the Linky lists, postings each month for your participants, and sometimes prizes help. I aim to do those and maybe more. We’ll see how it goes, but I’ll at least keep things up-to-date.
So the rules are as follows:
1. Create a post, but list as you read, either a blog or GoodReads, somewhere I can see it, and leave your url to that post in the Linky below.
2. Read some books. Any books. No limit in pages, even the phone book counts if that is your fancy. Just read!
3. That’s it!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My list:
1) One Dead Cookie by Virginia Lowell
2) Inspector Singh Investigates: A Calamitous Chinese Killing by Shamini Flint
3) Death, Taxes and Green Tea Ice Cream by  Diane Kelly
4) Dirty Little Secrets by Liliana Hart
