R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril V Challenge
For all those who read poetry, this is a good challenge to read poetry. There are four levels and you can join any. Check out, Clover, Bee and Reverie: A Poetry Challenge, for more info and do join in.
The challenge will go through 12/31/2010.
Here are the four levels of participation:
Couplet: Read 2 books of poetry
Limerick: Read 5 books of poetry, and finish at least one badge
Octave: Read 8 books of poetry, and finish at least two badges
Sonnet: Read 14 books of poetry, and finish two badges, and one expert badge

I will go for the Octave level. My tentative list of poetry books are:
1) Selected Poems by Robert Lowell (1917-1977)
2) Renascence and Other Poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892–1950)
3) Thirst: poems By Mary Oliver
4) Becoming The Villainess by Jeannine Hall Gaily
5) At the Threshold of Alchemy by John Amen
6 Poetic Musings of an Old, Fat Man by Harry E. Gilleland, Jr.
7) Slamming Open The Door by Kathleen Sheeder Bonanno
8) The Essential Keats: Selected by Philip Levine

You can pick any book of poetry, but it has to be contemporary poetry! Published in the 20th or 21st century. For the next year, pledge to read:
The Shallow End – 2-5 books of poetry – Your choice, poetry or poetics, just enough to cool off with your healthy dose of verse.
In the middle – 6-10 books of poetry – A little bit more ambitious, but not too much that it’ll be over your head.
Dive in to the Deep End! – 11-15 books of poetry – That’s right, jump in there, get all the way in. You know the only way to test the water is dive in.
As I write poetry, I read lots of it too. So I am diving right in into the Deep End.

(4) and (10) are poetry books. No, I am not going to read all! I think I will read 6-7 books out of these. I might change my mind and add a THICK book, like The 19th Wife! Let's see how I fare.

Japanese Literature Challenge 3 is being hosted by Dolce Bellezza.
Quoting from her blog:
"This year, all you have to do is read one work of Japanese origin. It can be literature of course, but don’t feel confined to that. You may choose to read poetry, biographies, short stories or even manga. If you are willing to read one such piece, you’ve met the challenge. If you read more, all the better.
The time frame is between July 30, 2009 and January 30, 2010."
I thought I can take on this challenge. Mainly because I am aiming to read Haruki Murakami. I like his writing and this is a perfect way to read more of his works.
Like the previous years, Maggie of Maggie reads is hosting Southern Reading Challenge from May 15th to August 15th. Here, In her own words:
You may choose to read any style of Southern book such as Appalachian tales, Civil War sagas, Gothic myths, Grit lit, and heart-wrenching biographies. Click here for ideas. Just as long as you read three (fiction or nonfiction) between May 15th and August 15th.
