Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-thon finishing post

End of Event Meme:

Which hour was most daunting for you?

As I live in India, my start up time is around 6 PM. Saturdays are working for me so in a way it is the end of the day for me. I also have to do the household chores. I do manage to read for three hours. I find difficult to stay awake after 11 30 PM.

Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

Go for Historical romances. Those keep one riveted.

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

I like the Read-a-thon the way it is.

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

Cheerleaders? I don't know. I did a start up post and now doing this finishing post. I did not do any mini challenges. In fact, I stayed away from my laptop.

What were the names of the books you read?

Bought: One Husband by Diana Hamilton

The Robot Scientist's Daughter by Jeannine Hall Gailey....poetry

Which book did you enjoy most?

The Robot Scientist's Daughter by Jeannine Hall Gailey....poetry

Which did you enjoy least?

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: October 18/19, 2014

Another Read-A-Thon. I have been participating in Dewey's 24 Hour Read-A-Thon since its conception barring one, which I forgot!!

2014 has been a good reading year for me. I have finished more than 200 books till date. So reading for the Read-A-Thon should not be a problem. I have decided to read only romance novels for it. That will help elevate the numbers!!

I also hope this will help me getting back to full time blogging. I know I have been slacking in that arena for few months now.

Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-Thon: Hour 4 and my start point!!

This is NOT good. It is hour 4 and I have not started reading as yet. Not my fault. Of all day, today I had to go out for various reason. I just couldn't avoid that. But as they say, better late than never. So here I am starting NOW.

And read what? I will read a novel based on one of our Epics. The Aryavarta Chronicles Book 1: Govinda by Krishna Udayasankar.

HONOUR. DESIRE. VENGEANCE.

Aryavarta - the ancient realm of the noble.

For generations, the Firstborn dynasty of scholar-sages, descendants of Vasishta Varuni and protectors of the Divine Order on earth, has dominated here. For just as long, the Angirasa family of Firewrights, weapon-makers to the kings and master inventors, has defied them. In the aftermath of the centuries-long conflict between the two orders, the once-united empire of Aryavarta lies splintered, a shadow of its former glorious self.

Now, the last Secret Keeper of the Firewrights is dead, killed by a violent hand, and the battle for supreme power in the empire is about to begin.

As mighty powers hurtle towards a bloody conflict, Govinda Shauri, cowherd-turned-prince and now Commander of the armies of Dwaraka, must use all his cunning to counter deception and treachery if he is to protect his people and those whom he loves.
But who holds the key to the fantastic and startling knowledge of the Firewrights, which in the wrong hands will bring doom upon the empire? And does Govinda have it in him to confront the dark secrets of his past and discover the true meaning of being Arya, of being noble?

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Hour 6..Book Spine poetry

I gave up on Tinkers by Paul Harding after reading 17 pages. It was NOT holding my interest. Too slow and so so abstract!! Atleast I have finished a poetry book The Meaning Of Me by Emmett Wheatfall.

I started reading The Runaway Jury by John Grisham. I have read 27 pages. I made myself a cup of herbal tea. It is 11:40 PM here and I don't know how long I will hold on... I had a long siesta in the afternoon, so that ought to keep me awake for a while....

Book Spine Poetry

Tinkers
The Runway Jury
wishes to know
The Meaning Of Me

I say no way
Don't let Death by Bourbon
make you sway
The Summons

will not make The Partners

Oh boo, oh boo, oh boo

The titles of the books have been bolded!!

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Hour 5..WHERE ARE THE CHEERLEADERS????????

I started late as had forgotten all about the Readathon. I finished reading a poetry book. The Meaning of Me by Emmett Wheatfall (Pages 95)

I will quote a poem from that:

And I smiled

This morning's sun
smiled upon my face,
wherein I awoke,
just in time to note,
the width of it,
deep the depth of it.

And I smiled.

Next I will read Tinkers by Paul Harding (Pages 191). I am staying away from crime Fiction which are easy to finish fast! I don't wish for easy way out!!

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: I forgot!

I forgot all about it! It is already 4 hours into it and so I need to catch up fast. I have not even set aside any books. What to do? What to do?

I might as well start with the Introductory Questionnaire

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Delhi, India

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Dunno. Yet to select

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

Just some munchies

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I am a poet. That's it. Oh, a teacher too!!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I forgot all about it.....Let me start it first....

Dewey's Read-a-Thon: Withdrawing from it

I have Central serous retinopathy in my left eye....which is fluid leakage under the retina....that means I have blurred vision for now....

It will clear up with time....I have been told to reduce my stress. I am going to take leave from work and right now I just trying to relax doing nothing. Not much of reading, watching TV or even use my laptop.....

Sunday Salon/24 Hour Read-a-thon: End of even meme

 Read-a-thon

Which hour was most daunting for you?

Hour 6-7. It was nearing midnight in Delhi and I couldn't keep awake

Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

I would say go for graphic novels! However, I never follow my own advice!

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

There were many readers who signed up but did not participate. If that could somehow be known before the readathon starts, it would help the cheerleaders. I think, there should be a new sign-up list one week prior to the event. Those who really want to read should sign up.

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

Dunno. I thought it was pretty much the same, maybe a bit slow.

How many books did you read?

Two and some pages of the third one...

What were the names of the books you read?

1) A Hint Of Rapture by Miriam Minger (pages 392)
2) My Sister's Voice (pages 318) and
3) The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks (40 pages)

Which book did you enjoy most?

My Sister's Voice (pages 318)

Which did you enjoy least?

........

If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?

Try to cheer as much as you can

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

Very much so. As reader and cheerleader, both!
