Weekly Geeks : Globe Trotting

Are you a global reader? How many countries have you “visited” in your reading? What are your favorite places or cultures to read about? Can you recommend particularly good books about certain regions, countries or continents? How do you find out about books from other countries? What countries would you like to read that you haven’t yet?

I do read books set in any country. I like to explore new places this way. However, going through my archives, I find that I have not read any books set in South America and read very few books set in Central America and the Caribbean and Africa. I have to remedy that soon. I want to read books set in all the African countries and also Central America. Maybe I should plan my reading countrywise.

I think it's a grand idea to 'plan your books countrywise'. This weekly geek theme definitely inspires to do just that.

Here's my Weekly Geeks

I'm really impressed with your African coverage. Most of the ones I read seem to be set in Nigeria or South Africa.

My South American/Caribbean reading is almost zilch. I find I haven't read that many books from China/Hong Kong/etc, which I hope to change soon...

This weekly geeks assignment is making me also want to read more African-based books.

I'm partial to the smooth scapes of the Irish countryside with charming people having that AWESOME accent.. and of course, evening trysts with the dublin pubs, which are just so "happening"!!
Globe trotting through the essence of books is indeed fascinating!!

Really impressive map! It's interesting how quite a few of us haven't read much about South America.

I like the idea of challenging yourself to read books by country

You have a good coverage Gautami. If you are looking for an Australian book to enjoy look for DIAMOND DOVE (aka MOONLIGHT DOWNS) by Adrian Hyland, or THE BROKEN SHORE by Peter temple, or SHATTER by Michael Robotham

I have listed books set in African Countries. I sorely need South America.

I can't recommend any books about Central or South America; my map looks a lot like yours in that regard, but I have been recommending the blog Walking the Amazon. Ed Stafford is chronicling his journey on foot from one end of the Amazon to the other. Maybe reading about his journey and the people he encounters along the way will encourage people to pick up some books about the area. Here's the address if you're interested.
