I must mention here that I read at my own pace and depending on my mood. Don't ask me to hurry.
Give me the list or take a picture of all the books you have stacked on your bedside table, hidden under the bed or standing in your shelf – the books you have not read, but keep meaning to. The books that begin to weigh on your mind. The books that make you cover your ears in conversation and say, ‘No! Don’t give me another book to read! I can’t finish the ones I have!’
In the last count I had more than 200+ unread books. However, I take this question is for those books, which we have had for ages and think we will get around reading those some time or the other. There are certain books our conscience doesn't allow us to giveaway or throw and we are always hoping to read those. Here is the list I remember as of now:

Great list! I wanted to read Love In the Time of Cholera too but just haven't got around to it.
Nice list. I keep meaning to re-read C&P and W&P, but not doing so; it's been a very long time since I have. The Joy Luck Club was pretty enjoyable.
Shataram is the only book I have read out of your list. I have Love In the Time of Cholera in my TBR too. Wonder when we'll get the time to read all these books?
Except for Love in the Time of Cholera, which I really didn't like, I enjoyed all the books I read on your list! I can see how you'd put them off though, I have done so myself.
Great list, Shantaram is a book I keep seeing people reading and think 'oh I must read that' and then see how small the print is and how long the book is and think 'how many other books could I read instead?'
The only one from there I've read is Sophie's world. It's good, but I thought the Solitaire Mystery was better.

I have been wanting to read The Joy Luck Club for a long time - since seeing the movie. I usually like to read the book first.
Some great books on your list. I have several on my TBR list as well. Love le Carre, although I haven't read The Russia House.
'Brothers Karamazov' is the Dostoevsky book I plan to get to some time. I did manage to read 'War and Peace' this year -- the longest book I've undertaken in quite awhile!

The only book on your list that I've read is The Joy Luck Club and I highly recommend it.
I'll say about Crime and Punishment just what you said to me about The Unconsoled - once you get started it's hard to stop!

Oooh, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Sophie's World whenever you get to it. I remember reading it for my philosophy class in secondary school and meaning to get a copy of my own, but... the latter still hasn't happened.
War and Peace is, er, somewhere on my TBR pile as well.
I've got several of those on my TBR list, too. But I had never heard of Shantaram, so I'm going to go look that one up right now.

Crime and Punishment is going to be on my top ten reads of 2009 list. I couldn't put it down.
It's actually very funny, which came as a shock.
These are great titles, I read some and others I own waiting to be read.
I absolutely loved Shantaram, I know that people have mixed feeling about it being such a chunkster and what is fiction and what is truth but I couldn't put the book down, the guy writes beautifully regardless of whether most of it is true or not.
I've read the Tan and the Tolstoy on your list; loved War and Peace, was just OK about The Joy Luck Club.

Crime and Punishment was surprisingly (to me anyway) VERY enjoyable! But I know how it is getting to "those books" that never seem to go away.

Except for The Russia House, those are all books I want to read or have wanted to read. I began Shantaram years ago but never finished it.

That's a good idea....limiting the list to those you've always been meaning to read. I've plugged away at Treasure Island and Once and Future King and several others this year that I've always wanted to read. I'm happy to say they are now off my TBR and are passed on to other readers.
Love in the Time of Cholera is on my list too...I want to watch the movie, but keep holding out until I read the book LOL

I read Sophie's World when I was fourteen, and thought it was amazing. It's one of those books that's difficult to read, at times, due to the essays on different philosophies, but, it actually makes you think!
I couldn't get through A Suitable Boy, which was unfortunate as An Equal Music is one of my all-time favorites.
I want to read Shantaram as well, and I got a John le Carre on my stack =)

I have read three of the books on your list: Crime and Punishment, Love in the Time of Cholera, and The Joy Luck Club(which is my favorite of the 3).
If I took a picture of all the books in my TBR stack it would be a picture of my 2 large bookshelves.
