Wednesday: Wondrous Words/Book cover

Wondrous Word Wednesday hosted by Kathy of BermudaOnion

The following words have been taken from The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields. (You can read my review by clicking on the title)

1) Posturing (Page 325):

: to assume a posture ; especially : to strike a pose for effect
: to assume an artificial or pretended attitude : attitudinize

2) Donnish (page325)

: of, relating to, or characteristic of a university don

Cover Attraction is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page.

Thanks for participating today. You found a couple of great words - I can't imagine myself ever using donnish though.

I knew both of these words. Now I can feel smart for the rest of the day. :)

Wow, that's quite the image. It really makes you want to know what the book is about.

I knew posturing but I've never heard attudinize before! Great cover choice, by the way; a very striking cover!

I'm so happy, I've spotted a word I knew ;) Posturing.

I have just read The Novice and I enjoyed it :)

Guatami, I just realized I didn't copy your new blog address into my reader but it sure is now. I've seen that cover for The Novice-it's very imposing.

I had the same thoughts as Avis - I knew "posturing" (and I actually use it, with all its negative conotations), but did a double-take a the definition. It used a word I hadn't before heard/read: "attitudinize" Sounds made-up, doesn't it?!
