It's been years since I've read The Pearl... will have to reread it, even though I don't like to read things that make me cry. I read it in school..maybe I was more callous then.. lol

I haven't read any of the books on your list, but I've heard good things about several of them. One Day by David Nicholls was the one that broke my heart the most last year.
