Monday: Musing/Mailbox/Whereabouts

Musing Mondays (BIG)How much of your reading do you share with others (outside of blogging?) Do you belong to a book or library club? Do you trade books with friends? Do you tell others what you’re reading?

Now I rarely discuss books outside of blogging. If anyone asks me, I do recommend books. When I visit bookstores, I can talk about a book with a total stranger. Not anywhere else. If I see a book worth reading on anyones' bookshelves, I do ask for it. I also can very easily loan out my books. A few of my frends send out romance novels to me as they think, I lack it in my life!

My reading is no secret. My family know what I am reading or what I covet to read.

Monday Mailbox is hosted by Marcia, In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren and New Crayons is hosted by Color Online. Check all three, which are related to books you receive in the past week.

I received the following books (6) in the mail this past week:

1) Soul Catcher by Leigh Bridger--a bound galley won in BBAW

From the gothic eccentricity of Asheville, North Carolina to the terrifying recesses of the Appalachian wilderness, from modern demonology to ancient Cherokee mythology, SOUL CATCHER follows the tormented journey of folk artist Livia Belane, who has been stalked through many lives by a sadistic and vengeful demon.

2) North From Calcutta Duanne Evans from the author

“I do believe we are coming to some kind of crossroads on Kashmir, and things could go either way,” Ali said. “The political environment today is extremely fluid. What the LT chooses to do is perhaps the greatest factor in whether or not the Kashmir talks will result in a real settlement. Should the LT initiate attacks, I think the Indians will do more than just withdraw from the talks.”
- Excerpt, North from Calcutta

3) Like Mayflies in the Stream by Shauna S Roberts from the author

In the great city of Uruk, there is no peace when Gilgamesh is restless, and he is never at rest. Shamhat, a priestess of Inanna, goes into the wilderness to find and civilize a match for Uruk's violently active God-King. Like Mayflies in a Stream brings new life to the Epic of Gilgamesh, diving into one of the earliest conflicts between civilization and wilderness, civic order and freedom, romance and sexuality.

4) Thirsty by Kristin Bair O'Keeffe from the author

It is 1883, and all of Klara Bozic’s girlish dreams have come crashing down as she arrives in Thirsty, a gritty steel town carved into the slopes above the Monongahela River just outside of Pittsburgh. She has made a heartbreaking discovery. Her new husband Drago is as abusive as the father she left behind in Croatia.

When Klara’s daughter marries a man even more brutal than Drago, Klara is forced to act. If she doesn’t finally break the cycle of violence in her family, her granddaughters will one day walk the same road, broken and bruised. As the threads that hold her family together fray and come undone, Klara has to decide if she has the courage to carve out a peaceful spot in the world for herself and her girls.

5) Shattered Dreams by Irene Spencer from the author

Irene Spencer did as she felt God commanded in marrying her brother-in-law Verlan LeBaron, becoming his second wife. When the government raided the fundamentalist, polygamous Mormon village of Short Creek, Arizona, Irene and her family fled to Verlan's brothers' Mexican ranch. They lived in squalor and desolate conditions in the Mexican desert with Verlan's six brothers, one sister, and numerous wives and children. Readers will be appalled and astonished, but most amazingly, greatly inspired. Irene's dramatic story reveals how far religion can be stretched and abused and how one woman and her children found their way out, into truth and redemption.

6) O, Juliet by Robin Maxwell---a galley from the author

Before Juliet Capelletti lie two futures: a traditionally loveless marriage to her father's business partner, or the fulfillment of her poetic dreams, inspired by the great Dante. Unlike her beloved friend Lucrezia, who looks forward to her arranged marriage, Juliet has a wild, romantic imagination that knows not the bounds of her great family's stalwart keep.

I haven't read any of these books you've mentioned, but Shattered Dreams sounds good (is it weird that I sometimes pick books based on how their title sounds? Hmm...)

Enjoy your week of reading

Enjoy your new books! I don't talk about books other than with Serena and my blog buddies. Sometimes my sister will ask me for some recommendations, but she has a baby and little time to read.
