How do you feel about explicit detail in your reading? Whether language, sex, violence, situations and so on … does it bother you? Faze you at all? Or do you just read everything without it bothering you?
I am not bothered about violence in moderation but I cannot read explicit details about the way serial killers go about a victim. I also cannot stand bad language. I do not think the four lettered words need to be used everywhere. Some writers do not know where to draw the line.
I prefer not to read books with porn as their main agenda. I read a couple of erotica recently and I am not going to repeat that any time soon...
I prefer novels to nurture my mind, heart and soul. And explicit anything fails to do that.

I am generally ok with anything that is authentic. When it (language, sex, violence) begins to feel like filler, or like shock value, I'm done. But if it is reasonable and authentic to a character then I can just read by it (it is worth noting, however, that I don't generally read erotica, but if characters suddenly find themselves amorous, I'm fine with it). The one thing that I have trouble with is the death of animals...any animals and any kind of death, even a soft and gentle slip into sleep. I most often end up in a puddle of snot and tears! I hate when I'm reading along happily and the pet dies. It always ruins a book for me!

I agree with the porn fact. Once, I attempted to read one of my friend's favorite books before realizing it was erotic. It included beastiality, for goodness sakes. I could barely get past the second chapter before I quit...Let's just say, a piece of me died. :(
I agree somewhat. Four-letter words aren't a deal-breaker for me... but I don't like to see their gratuitous use. If it helps build the character, I'm okay with that. If every other word is a swear... not so much.
Thanks for visiting my site!
