Book Beginnings on Fridays/The Friday 56/Friday Four Fill-in Fun Blog Hop

Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, where bloggers share the first sentence or more of a current read, as well as initial thoughts about the sentence(s), impressions of the book, or anything else that the opening inspires.

Anu Aggarwal chewed her pan and searched the gardens for her three a. m. appointment. Moonlight caught the morning dew just forming on the grass. All was still as she crushed the sweet, minty supari between her teeth. She'd worn her signature leather pants, midriff-baring halter top, and Cashmere-lined leather jacket for the occasion. She'd even put on makeup, a chore she usually skipped at night.

She believed in the power of first impressions.

Book Description

Anu is a leather wearing, no-nonsense professional guardian with a reputation for killing the most dangerous vampires in New York City. But when her enemies murder the one person she truly cared about, all she wants is vengeance. The only clue points to New Delhi, so Anu puts in for a job transfer.
In India, she finds more than she expected. For one thing, her fellow operatives have made a truce with the vampires. For another, it’s way too hot to wear leather.

A pan-chewing, midriff-bearing, vampire slayer – wow! That has got to be some story.

Thanks for participating in Books Beginnings on Fridays!

The statement about wanting to be a pilot really caught my eye. I wanted the same and grew up to get what I wanted. I am a pilot.

Definitely agree about first impressions!
(You wanted to be a pilot? :) Thanks for that peek into your childhood dream)

JC Jones, I didn't realize you were a pilot. And Gautami, I had no idea being a pilot would interest you.

That does sound like an intriguing book!

Hi Gautami,

There is so much going on in this post, that I don't know where to start.

I am not sure that this is a book I would read, unless it was an author review request. However a vampire slayer who takes to wearing make-up at 3am to make a good impression and is then seen as potential marriage material by her Aunt, certainly has the makings of an and eventful excellent storyline

My make-up and shoes are the first things to be removed when I get in from work and a make-up free weekend is always looked forward to.

Maths was always my weakest subject at school, so I have great admiration for your love of the subject. I pretty much excelled in just about every other subject, so I guess there is a story there somewhere!

Hope that you are having a great weekend.

I don't think I would survive a 3 a.m. meeting, even if I was a vampire slayer. Although I don't really like vampire novels, this one sounds pretty funny! I try not too pay too much attention to first impressions though, I learnt my lesson from Pride & Prejudice! ;)
