I must mention here that I read at my own pace and depending on my mood. Don't ask me to hurry.
How about First Editions? Are they something special? Or “just another book” to you?
For contemporary fiction, it does not really matter, if it is a first edition or not. But for poetry books and some old novels, I do love the first editions I possess. I like the covers and the smell of those book. These books are somewhat VERY special. However, I will never go out of my way to acquire any first editions. As long as I get a copy to read, it doesn't really matter much.

I agree with you on the "as long as I get a copy to read, it doesn't matter" bit!
They're just another book to me. I mainly read contemps and first editions really don't matter.
I'm with you - I don't think first editions add anything to a novel.
I too love the smell of old books. I'm not a first edition person, but I adore old books.
Interesting question, don't you think? I personally am an avid reader, not a collector of books, although, I do own alot. Here's my answer for this week's Booking Through Thursday.
