Monday: Mailbox/What Am I Reading?/Musings

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists. May Host is: 4 the Love of Books

I received two print books, thanks to the authors/publicists:

The Hope Factory by Lavanya Sankaran
Anand is an Indian success story: successful, well-married, rich. At least, that’s how he appears. But if his little factory is to grow, he needs land and, in the New India, this is not easy to find.

Kamala, Anand’s family’s maid, lives perilously close to the edge of disaster. She and her clever teenage son have almost nothing, and their small hopes for self-betterment depend on the contentment of Anand’s wife: a woman to whom whims come easily. But Kamala’s son keeps bad company. Anand’s marriage is in trouble. And the murky world where crime and land and politics meet is a dangerous place for a good man, particularly one on whom the wellbeing of so many depends.

Last Train to Omaha by Ann Whitely-Gillen
After a horrific accident claims the life of his best friend at the age of eighteen, James Milligan is changedforever. For the next seventeen years, he lives as a shadow of his former self: shutting out those who love him most, navigating his life in a veil of solitude and drowning himself in anxiety and guilt.

When a chance encounter introduces him to Martin Diggs, an enigmatic war veteran, and palliative care nurse Rebecca Doyle, his life takes a turn for the best. Rebecca reignites emotions he thought were gone forever, and Martin challenges him to accept his shattered past and move forward.

I also downloaded two free Kindle books. I do not have a Kindle but I can read the books on Kindle For PC.

Chasing Justice by Danielle Stewart:
Piper Anderson has been given a fresh start in the picturesque town of Edenville, North Carolina. But her plans of settling into a normal life are derailed when she witnesses a prominent judge in her community committing a violent assault. Running from her own past and fueled by a passion to make the judge answer for his crimes, Piper is forced to decide if she’ll play by the rules or achieve justice in her own way.

Complicating things further, Piper finds herself fighting a powerful attraction to rookie cop, Bobby Wright. Although she’s increasingly enamored with Bobby, his staunch belief in the justice system is in stark contrast to her own. She may not share his opinions about the effectiveness of the law, but she certainly can’t deny how safe she feels when she’s in his arms or how every kiss leaves her desperate for more.

For Piper, the idea of finally living an ordinary life with a man to love is tempting. However, fate keeps placing the judge, quite literally, in her path. Will she decide the only way to win is to be as wicked as the judge, but with righteous intentions? And more importantly, will Bobby choose to let her go, or follow her as she crosses the line and takes justice into her own hands?

Unintended Consequences by Marti Green

How much would a father sacrifice for his child?

Nineteen years ago, Indiana police found the body of a young girl, burned beyond recognition and buried in the woods. They arrested George Calhoun for murdering his daughter, and his wife testified against him at the trial. The jury convicted him. Now his appeals have been exhausted, and his execution is just a few weeks away.

George said he didn’t do it. That the body isn’t his little Angelina. But that’s all he’s ever said – no other defense, no other explanation. Dani Trumball, an attorney for the Help Innocent Prisoners Project, wants to believe him. After all, there was no forensic evidence that the body in the woods was George’s daughter. But if the girl isn’t Angelina, then who is it? And what happened to the Calhouns’ missing daughter? For nineteen years, George Calhoun has stayed silent. But that’s about to change, and the story he tells Dani—if it’s true—changes everything.

Great sounding books. My Kindle died so I downloaded the APP so I can read on my computer (which I don't really like) until I replace it. Have a great week.

Hi Gautami,

A great varied selection of books this week and I had difficulty choosing a favourite to add to my own toppling review pile.

As all of your authors were new to me, I needed to check out each individual synopsis, but didn't get past one in particular, which caught my eye straight away...

Thrillers are one of my most favourite genres, so 'Unintended Consequences' is my pick of the week.

This sounds like a great debut novel.

Enjoy all of your books and have a good week.

Yvonne
