BBAW 2012: Highlight

Share a highlight of this year’s BBAW. Whether it’s a blog you discovered or a book you’re going to read or a way you felt refreshed, this is the day to celebrate the week!

This year BBAW did away with the awards. That is a good thing. Because the same old blogs got the awards. No doubt a few of those are good but most got because of cliques. That might sound a bit harsh but it is the truth.

This year, I did all the daily posts and also visited quite a lot. But I have had very few visitors. My pimp a book post was almost a wash out. Does that mean book bloggers are a closed community? They are not open to explore newness even in the blogs?

I discovered a few new blogs, rediscovered some forgotten ones. I have been blogging since 2005 and evolved over the years. So have many books blogs. There are a few book blogs, which help me find totally different kind of books. And I look forward to their posts. The book blogging community has so much to share.

Yes, we need to rant too. At ourselves, at others.....and also stick to each other, no matter what.....

To me, BBAW is all about meeting new-to-me book bloggers and to appreciate this book bloggers community. I look forward to next year's BBAW.

My experience is different from yours in that I got more visitors than normal, and I'm sure a few more subscribers. But I did comment on a lot of blogs - I really enjoy the community, but I do know that my blog or my style might not be for everyone.

I think getting rid of the awards was a good move. The problem was people didn't bother to check out all the blogs nominated - they just clicked on familiar names.

You may find that comments will appear over time. Seems like some folks are planning to continue their visits after this week in catch-up.

I think a lot of readers might be primarily left-brained, so thinking about reading physics (a right-brained activity) is scary.

I love the IDEA of physics (The Big Bang Theory is my favorite show ever!), and I've purchased a few books (A History of Time, among others) in the last couple of years... but they remain unread. Because I'm just not really a science person.

I'll get to them some day. :)

I know I have lots of BBAW posts still to read. It's one of the reasons I like the Linky posts at the BBAW site - it gives me a chance to catch up in the next week or so. A week simply isn't enough to read all the good stuff.

I did read your Pimp a Book post yesterday and while I'm married to a scientist, and Physics was my favorite science class in school it intimidates me as pleasure reading. I might give Surely You're Joking a try but I'm not making any promises ;-)

Like Tanya - I think I had more visits than normal this week.

I totally agree that no awards was a good thing. I also noticed that many high profile previous award winners didn't participate this year.

Ranting is allowed but the sticking together is crucial!

Sorry you felt the lack of comments or visitors. I came on your Pimp post, but am not into Physics in the least. I didn't want to comment negatively so I didn't leave any comment at all. I love your blog though and appreciate all the content you put forth, even the stuff I'm just not into.

I am glad there were no awards this year either. The focus could be more on the community this year, I think.

I enjoy your blog very much, Gautami, and all you contribute. :-)

Gautami, have always loved your posts and your poetry in all the memes is something i look forward to reading.. BBAW was my way of getting back into blogging after a long break so in my case, definitely had more visits and comments to my blog than usual:) and I am planning to visit and comment over this weekend as well..

Yeah, I think I'm glad the awards were dropped this year, too. It does take away from the appreciation, dividing us a bit. I don't think there is a closed community, I think it's the sheer number of us, for example I was commenting on about 20-25 blogs a day and it was only about 1/4 of them.

I am glad the awards were not a part of this year either even though I didn't participate last year and didn't know what they were for.

I agree the same people tend to win when awards are given out. Good move on the organizer's part.

This year was great.

I found so many great blogs and more wonderful books. This was my first time participating.

It is has been a fabulous week. I loved it all.

Stop by my blog if you like to see my Day 3, 4, and 5 responses if you like.

I was unable to participate this week due to work commitments and helping my son move. I liked the idea of no awards and am sorry that I had to miss out this year.

I find that I will see high visits but not as many comments. That's OK. At least they visit. There will always be cliques. Your blog is very nice and has good quality posts :-)
I read pimp a book too, and am more artistic than mathematics minded.
It was good, just not for me.
Don't get bummed, I do and have to stop the funk quickly.
Have a wonderful day:-)

Sometimes people read without commenting it's true. But you are most certainly appreciated!

It's always great to find a blog you thought you'd lost forever.
