Booking Through Branching Out

Name a book you love in a genre you normally don’t care for. What made you decide to read it? Did it make you want to try more in that genre?

I loved reading Stolen by Lucy Christopher, a YA novel. It had many rave reviews in the book blogs I visit. So I thought to pick it up. It is about a girl who goes missing. As I teach young girls, I thought why not read it. I have tried a few more YA novels but not much. Maybe if I find interesting stuff, I will go for that.

What genre do you avoid reading and why?

I cannot stand paranormal stuff. The weird creatures and erotic stuff totally put me off.

I agree with you on the paranormal stuff. I don't really get it. Here's mine: Small Blonde Hippy

I feel the same about the paranormal stuff. I love Shirley Jackson but her books tend to be more ghostly and crazy rather than paranormal and certainly no erotica! I did enjoy those but most of what I see in YA, I would never go for.

Oh I agree I hate paranormal, no matter what form it takes. That was a reason I quit reading one author, all of a sudden he threw in paranormal stuff. I think if it has paranormal in it, it should be a part of the description. I know if I had known ahead I would not have bought his book.

I totally agree, YA/paranormal novels filled with over the top romance and sparkly vampires just annoy me XD I recently read a YA novel I really liked though!

Agree about the paranormal stuff, although I did just read a pretty good historical fiction with some ghosts or something in it.

I avoid zombies, vampires, and the like as much as possible.
