Mondays: Mailbox/What Are You Reading?/Musings

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at A Girl and Her Books. Brook of  TheBluestocking Guide  is hosting for the month of June.

I received one book, The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock

Set in rural southern Ohio and West Virginia, The Devil All the Time follows a cast of compelling and bizarre characters from the end of World War II to the 1960s. There’s Willard Russell, tormented veteran of the carnage in the South Pacific, who can’t save his beautiful wife, Charlotte, from an agonizing death by cancer no matter how much sacrificial blood he pours on his “prayer log.” There’s Carl and Sandy Henderson, a husband-and-wife team of serial killers, who troll America’s highways searching for suitable models to photograph and exterminate. There’s the spider-handling preacher Roy and his crippled virtuoso-guitar-playing sidekick, Theodore, running from the law. And caught in the middle of all this is Arvin Eugene Russell, Willard and Charlotte’s orphaned son, who grows up to be a good but also violent man in his own right.

I am STILL currently reading Other Eyes by Barbara D'Amato
I am SO behind!!

I posted a review of

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

Have you ever read a book that inspired you to take up a cause? What book was it, and what is/was the cause?

I have read a lot of books which has made me think and I have taken up a cause or two. One is child abuse. Two is drugs. Anti-drugs. I can't remember names of those books but these two causes hve stayed with me.

Don't worry about being behind. Just enjoy your reading. :)

Until Sunday I had only finished four books, a fifth of what I was reading during spring semester. Then two things conspired to make me read more. Come see what happened.

Enjoy the reading.

I can't remember if I've taken up a cause but I know that reading solidifies my moral and values often.

"Of Sound and Water" cemented my love and concern for the Great Lakes. I'm currently reading "Minor Characters" by Joyce Johnson, Jack Kerouac's professed muse. A wonderful writer in her own right, she chronicles the art and lives of the Beats in this eye-opening memoir. I'm behind on everything, can't worry about that! Thanks for a great post.
