Booking through Book Reviews

btt button

Do you read book reviews? Whose do you trust? Do they affect your reading habits? Your buying habits?

I occasionally do read book reviews and it has at times helped me deciding to read a particular book or not. I do check out reviews in The Guardian or The Times. But I prefer the book blogger reviews. I seldom go for hyped books though. They almost always turn out to be disappointing. However, the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson is the exception. I loved the first two books and look forward to read the third one.

However, while writing a book review, I seldom ever read other reviews so as to not to be influenced by those.

What do you think?

I like reading other book bloggers reviews, and I read Goodreads reviews just for fun.

I don't tend to read reviews of books I know I am going to read prior to reading them because I just want to figure it out for myself.

Here is my BTT Answer

I'm with you in that I'd much rather read book blogger reviews than the NYT or others but I still do read the others. I also don't like to read reviews while I'm tryignt o write my own, just to keep my voice authentic and true to my own experience with the book.

I like reading blogs and seeing what everything thinks about a book, even a hyped one, but like you I prefer to not read the hyped ones. I trust my bloggers and I also trust book page and shelf awareness.
