"I was that man's executioner," Kolm whispered in my ear. "He's the living image of my failure."
~Page 86, Voltaire's Calligrapher by Pablo De Santis
Book Description from HarperCollins
Dalessius is twenty when he comes to work for one of the Enlightenment’s most famous minds, the author and philosopher Voltaire. As the great man’s calligrapher, Dalessius becomes witness to many wonders—and finds himself in the middle of a secret battle between the malevolent remnants of the all-but-dead Dark Ages and the progressive elements of the modern age. The calligrapher’s role in this shadowy conflict will carry him to many perilous places— through the gates of sinister castles and to the doors of a bizarre bordello; toward life-and death confrontations with inventive henchmen, ingenious mechanical execution devices, poisonous fish, and murderous automatons. As the conspiracy to halt the Enlightenment’s astonishing progress intensifies, young Dalessius’s courage—as well as Voltaire’s unique cunning and wit—are put to the ultimate test as they strive to ensure the survival of the future.

Here's my TEASER TUESDAYS
Great teaser! It's making me curious about the book.
Now that is a statement that makes you think about this man's relationship to the other in one swoop.
I like the title and cover.
Who would have guessed that being a calligrapher could be so potentially dangerous?
Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Gautami,
Great teaser lines, as dark and mysterious as the rest of the book sounds.
The relationship between the two men appears to be deep and almost sinister.
This has intrigued me enough to add the title to my 'wish list', thanks for the recommendation.

Failure to do the job, or...'moral failure' in doing it? Is the person a twin or an accidental doppelganger?

Hmm, interesting teaser. It sounds like an intriguing book. Thanks for visiting my teaser.
Lately I've been reading quite a few books of historical fiction--mostly mid-late 1700s. It's best of both worlds--you learn about historical figures and events--like your Voltaire--and still get a good yarn. I'll check out for sure.
My TT is from "Rose in a Storm" by Jon Katz. If you like dogs, especially smart border collies, this book may appeal. Link: Summit Musings
Strong teaser! I like it
