Booking through current reads

btt button

What are you reading right now? What made you choose it? Are you enjoying it? Would you recommend it?

I am in some kind of reading slump. No novel is holding my interest.  I started a lot of novels but discarded one by one, going to the next. Those include crime fiction, historical novels, romances, contemporary fiction and poetry.  I also tried reading short stories but I seem to be having some kind of reading block. I don't know what to do about it.

I am reading newspaper articles and the likes but no work of fiction interests me. I am watching movies on TV, listening to music and I am also writing poetry.

What do I do the get back to my reading? I have tried everything, including visiting bookstores.

I don't think you should push it. I go through movie and book phases. Right now I'm in a book phase. But in a few weeks my book level might be too high and I'll still read, but not so urgently and I'll feel like I need to catch up with some great movies I've missed. It might not be movies for you or it might not be anything other than not reading as much for a little while. Then one day soon, something on your TBR stack, or something else, will catch your eye and you'll feel that familiar tug...

In the meantime, just relax and pay attention to life and think of it as a rest, like in music, until the next movement begins.

I just got out of my slump. I couldn't find any print books that held my attention. I was listening to some pretty interesting audio books, so I concentrated on those for a while, and now my slump is over. That was a 2 month slump. You're interest will pick up again. I think we readers need a break at least once a year.

Sorry to hear about your slump...hopefully you'll get out of it soon. Maybe after seeing everyone's current read you'll find something that calls to you!

Here's my current read.

We all go through slumps. Use the time to do other things, and then when you don't expect it, a title will grab you and pull you back in.

Yes, I think we all go through reading "slumps". Actually, I went through one that lasted years, back in the '90s. You just never know what causes it, or how long it'll last. But I agree that you probably shouldn't push it - just give yourself a break for a while and do other things that you enjoy.

I so understand. I have been in a slump for approximately 3 weeks. Yesterday I saw in my google reader how many blogs were signing up for a Fall 2010 challenge. So I joined too and last night picked up my current book and read until I fell asleep. It got me back on track. If you are interested, I posted about it today on my blog.

I understand. Hopefully you'll find a recommendation from this week's BTT to spark your interest. :)

I don't think you can force yourself out of a reading slump. It's been my experience that when I feel like that I just stay away from books for a week or more and then eventually something catches my eye and I'm suddenly interested again. I hope your slump ends soon and you find the perfect book to capture your attention.

Hope you come out of your slump soon. I had one through August and I am not sure I am completely out of it, as I am reading a lot slower than I used to.

I hate when the reading goes slumpy. I hope it ends soon. Here's my Booking Through Thursday.

I've been there. Personally I'm a fan of Amazon.com when I can't seem to get interested in anything. I go to my previous picks and the site comes up with a "if you liked this book" list of similar stories.

Maybe some poetry would keep your interest.

I go through slumps also. I hate it when I do but the good thing is, it always passes. Hope this one passes quick for you.

Reading is definitely an exercise in ebb and flow for me too. I'm currently at rather low tide, but I'm reading "Secrets of a Mysterious Older Woman" by Constance Feathers. It's a post-divorce memoir that includes humor, romance, burlesque, barns haunted by cows and tips on being a MOW (mysterious older woman). Frankly, it's awesome!

I have had a tough time deciding what to read last week. I have so many unread books but nothing seemed to interest me at the moment.

I'm reading David Mitchell and Peter Carey, whom are both longlisted for Booker this year, but I'm digging their older works.

The slump will end when it's ready. I had that happen a few years ago. Couldn't get into a book. I blame the internet... jumping around reading a lot of short articles was affecting my attention span. So I went to the library and checked out a few scifi novellas since that's a genre I enjoy. That got me back in the mood for novels again. Hope your slump ends soon.

Sorry about your reading slump. Have you read SARAH'S KEY by Tatiana de Rosnay? I read this 2 weeks ago and it cured me of reading slumpitis. :)
