BBAW: Unexpected treasure

This too I will do differently. I am not going to talk about any book or genre but about my love for the sciences.

I am student of science. It is not surprising at all because all of us followed our dad. My brothers are techies, and therefore can be called geeks or nerds! . But I am not. I studied Pure Sciences. How did that come about? As I have mentioned before, my dad used to teach me Math and Physics. He had bought all three volumes of The Feynman Lectures on Physics for us. We used to leaf through those very often and a time came when I devoured all three volumes. Those were for undergraduate students but I, along with my youngest brother, finished those while still in school. I decided that I will pursue Physics and of course, my youngest brother had already decided to go in for Engineering, following our older two brothers.

However, I ended up studying Chemistry. Why I did that? On the day of admissions, I decided that if I did not want to end up hating Physics, I ought to go in for Chemistry. A stupid reason, some might say. But it is a true one. By the time I finished with my post graduate degree in Chemistry, I   wanted nothing to do with it. And I still love Physics, reading articles and any book that I can lay my hands on!

Weird reasoning at that time but rightly so!

I did an astrophysics degree and am ashamed to say I never got through the Feynman lectures. You're right though, it did affect my love of the subject when I finished until I went on to study the history and philosophy of science which made me see and understand physics from a different angle. So it's one set of books I'm determined to read before I die!

I do envy you. Physics is such a fascinating subject! After all it is about ourselves and our universe as well.

I kind of like how well you knew yourself at the start of your college studies and that if you studied physics you would hate it so you studied chemistry. Great post.

Oh wow! Physics is the class I did most poorly in in college. I really admire anyone who excels at it!

I love science, but wasn't very good at physics at school (I blame the teacher).

Oh, I enjoyed the sciences, too, but mostly biology...and even geology. Chemistry and Physics...not for me!

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I'm always a little jealous of people who studied any scientific subject. I used to do really well in those subjects in high school but had the most boring teacher, which made me ultimately decide to switch to the humanities in uni. I don't think I made the wrong choice, but every now and then I feel like I should be reading more scientific books as well.

Great choice for a great mind!

Fascinating! I really enjoy reading sciency nonfiction; do you have a favorite "fun" Physics books to recommend?

I like forensics, oceanography and zoology!

Thanks for playing!

I love your reason for going in for Chem instead of Physics. That's pretty much reasonable, because you can end up hating the field you are in, when it starts giving you headaches or creating pressures!
