All other thing being equal, would you rather read a book that’s hard/challenging/rewarding or light/enjoyable/easy?
I prefer books which are harder to read. And I have a Kafka Quote as my Blog Header, which says it all:
"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us."
Franz Kafka
There is definitely a place for books that challenge us, and there is such a sense of achievement when you finish a difficult book.

Wound and stab... as long as it's not literal (no dripping blood on my books, lol).

I enjoy both categories. But if a book is really hard to read, I might not be brave enough to try it!
ReplyDeleteHere's my BTT answer.
I want challenging and entertaining all in the same book!

I like a little of both to balance things out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Stab and wound. All the way.
