Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week, we get a theme to list our top tens.
This week's Top Ten is: Top Ten Books That Should Be Required Reading For Teens.
I do recommend some books to teenagers. I even buy those as gifts for them. I am listing them here:
1) The Book Thief by Mark Zusack
2) Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
3) The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank
4) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
5) The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
6) Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
7) The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
8) All Jostein Gaarder novels
9) All Harry Potter Novels
10) All John Steinbeck novel
11) All Charles Dickens novels
All great choices.
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple of the same choices. I like that you included Harry Potter. I think they ended up getting a lot of non-readers to become avid readers and hopefully they will continue this trend with future generations.
ReplyDeleteYour list will certanily produce well-read young people.
ReplyDeleteI've found that while the majority of my 7th graders at least like Harry Potter, there is a good sized group that either has no interest in him or really hates him.
But, I expect 30 years from now the first book will be commonly found on rerquired reading lists.
You picked some of the books I put on my list as well. A very interesting list.
ReplyDeleteA great list! I had Harry Potter on mine too. I wish I'd include a few more "classics" too...
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
Great list!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about Steinbeck. Of Mice and Men was one of my favorites when I was a teenager.
ReplyDeleteCome visit me at The Scarlet Letter.
Great Choices, I am sure if I had to write down a list, some of the books in your list would be there.
ReplyDeleteBut I would also put in Sarah Dessen there.

ReplyDeleteI was actually required to read Sophie's World. It's a great introduction to philosophy--but is that ending weird or what? =P Aside from this, the only other Gaarder novel I've read is Through a Glass Darkly. Which other titles would you recommend?
There are a few on that list I haven't read so I need to get busy!
