I totally forgot about "All Quiet on the Western Front". That was an excellent book and the movie wasn't to shabby either!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
I've read four of these (Catch-22, A Farewell to Arms, Diary of Anne Frank, & Les Miserables)...The Book Thief is on my TBR list. Here's my full answer: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2010/11/booking-through-thursday-war.html
ReplyDeleteI've read most of those, except two I think. Here's my link
ReplyDeleteI didn't think of some of these as war stories, but you are right, they are. Good point.

I only read fictional ones. The White Queen, The Red Queen, and some Civil War books.
ReplyDeleteI tried reading "For Whom the Bell Tolls" around the same time I read "Homage to Catalonia", but couldn't quite get into it. :-/ I'll revisit it in the future, though.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I forgot about The Book Thief. I read that one, too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great list. I hope to read these as well someday.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the love of god, don't forget Homer's The Iliad. It may well be the genesis of combat fiction/literature. So much of the ancient Greek drama/poetry has influenced the writing of future generations. Cheers! Chris
