You’ve just dropped your favorite, out-of-print book into a bathtub, ruining it completely … What do you do now?
It has happened with me. However, not in the bathtub. Dead Man's Folly by Agatha Christie got completely wet in the rains as I had left in the porch. By the time I remembered, it was too late. However, I dried it out in the sun for four days.....LOL! You can imagine how it looked like. Or looks like. I still have it!!
Now I am very careful. I don't read anywhere near the water. Or fire!
What do you think?
Ooh I haven't dropped my favourite, but I was a little gutted when my brand new Barbara Erskine book got soaked by the pool on holiday. I am quite pristine with my books and now this one looks like it has been in the washing machine.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks!!
ReplyDeleteLol i read in the bath every night and this topic has made me really paranoid!
Maybe we need waterproof books...LOL! I talk about freeze drying in mine!
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine borrowed a book from me and dropped into the bathtub and then returned it to me like that!
ReplyDeleteI think if it was a rare book I would encase it in glass and display so it would not get damaged.

oh goodness!! lol That's terrible! I try to be really careful with my books but sometimes the rain has other plans for me. I lost a Miss Marple mystery that way. I was bummed out for days...lol
ReplyDeleteDidn't you know, that most home accidents occur in the bathtub? That poor book. Here's My BTT.
ReplyDeleteHow awful! I am glad you were able to salvage it, even if it's all crinkly. :) My answer is at The Crowded Leaf.
ReplyDeleteNow that seems a more likely scenario. I never read in the bath but I could forget and leave a book on the balcony. Most likely that would be a paperback book not too hard to replace if anything happened though
ReplyDeleteBummer. I don't read in the bathtub. It's just not my thing. However, if a favorite book gets ruined because of water, I'd like hunt down another copy.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a bathtub reader, but I do read poolside.
ReplyDeleteBut generally I don't take any books there that I cant' replace or that are of value to me.
I learned the hard way not to take unreplaceable books near water. I have bought quite a few library books dropping them in the pool though!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever dropped a book into the bath water, but I have spilled water on books which left some of the pages in a terrible state!
ReplyDeleteI've gotten books wet also, they always get all crinkly when they dry...lol. I can imagine what your Agatha Christie book looks like!

While I've never taken a rare book to read in the bath, I've taken some of my favorites (with all my notes and comments in the margin) in the bath and dropped those...I'll usually dry the book as best I can, then buy a new copy and rewrite my notes in it!
