Mondays: Mailbox/Where Am I/Musings

Started by Marcia, this August, Monday Mailbox is hosted by Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit.

I received the following five books (Click on the image for larger picture), thanks to the authors/publicists:

Constant rains on top of melting winter snow fuel fears of a record flood in Jackson, Iowa. Construction of the town's dog track on an island in the Mississippi River is jeopardized, threatening Jackson's financial future. Even more ominous, city officials learn that the existing floodwall and levee system might fail to protect the city itself.

With little time to lose, the people of Jackson must set aside old grievances and long-held prejudices to work together. Tensions build while they debate whether to add to the system, and as they argue, the river continues to rise.

This book starts with Gemma writing a letter to her captor, Ty. Gemma, a sixteen-year-old, has been stolen from the airport in Bangkok to a place in Australia. It is middle of nowhere and there is only red sand and heat. Ty has build a place for them to live. Ty does not think he has kidnapped her. He thinks he has saved her from a life where she not much appreciated by her family or friends. He expects her to love him, the way he loves her.

Interwoven with the story of the year Annie spent captive of a sadistic psychopath in a remote mountain cabin, which unfolds through sessions with her psychiatrist, is a second narrative recounting events following her escape—her struggle to piece her shattered spirit back together and the ongoing police investigation into the identity of her captor.

A young woman travels alone to a remote island to uncover a past she never knew was hers in this thrilling modern ghost story

Winnie Easton has finally found love again with Jerry Trevis, a wealthy businessman who has moved to the small town of Hartfield, New York to begin his life anew. But their decision to buy one of the town’s biggest houses ignites anger and skepticism in their families.
