However, in my childhood and teenage years, I read a lot of classics along with mysteries/suspense/thrillers. I read a lot of romances too, Mills & Boons/Harlequins. I devoured all the books that my brothers read, be it on war, satires, adventures, travelogues, even DIY books too. Poetry reading was entirely my choice.
Except for Paranormal fiction, I read pretty much anything. Always have, always will.
My reading was always evolved, now more so because I do go for genres which might make others uncomfortable. I fully endorse to the Kafka quote on the header of my blog:
"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us."
I respect those that enjoy the classics and historicals but for me, I just can't read those genres.

I like to think I didn't change all that much, I just improved.
ReplyDeleteI think my tastes are ever evolving.
ReplyDeleteAnd my tastes are ever expanding. Probably by the time I'm fifty there'll be almost no genre I won't read.
ReplyDeleteI think my tastes has pretty much remain the same. Like you i used to read a lot or romance like Mills & Boons but i kinda grew out of that phase. Now i read almost any genre.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I've stayed away from classics.
ReplyDeleteI have phases in reading.
ReplyDeleteGreat quote! Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteMy preference didn't so much change, as it did...evolve. Here's My BTT
ReplyDeleteThat's impressive! I like that you've always been an eclectic reader!
ReplyDeleteYour BTT post actually helped inspire my own, so I mentioned it there :-)
ReplyDeletePoetry rarely does it for me at all, so I can understand how you feel about paranormal fiction. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be an eclectic reader. My eyes still cross though when I try reading classics.
ReplyDeleteMy BTT.
I used to read all kinds of books as a kid, but now I mainly read fiction.
ReplyDeletePS. I like the term "paranormal" fiction. :)
My tastes have changed. I used to love the sweet Harlequin Romances, but now I read things with more of a plot and a bit more spicy.
ReplyDeleteOh, definitely. I think now I'm willing to try everything, I have a more open mind. Though, the only genre I seem to be holding back from is paranormal romance. Maybe one day I'll come to love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!

Oh great quote. I don't read as many classics as I used to but I hope to get back to them soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Nice! I like the occasional murder mystery but romances make me want to hit my head with something hard.
ReplyDeleteYour tastes are really diverse. I'm impressed!
