Booking through disappointment

Name a book or author that you truly wanted to love but left you disappointed. (And, of course, explain why.)

Right now I can only recall Virginia Woolf. I have tried reading her novels but somehow can't get into the groove. Her stream of consciousness is too much of it. While reading her novels, my minds drifts like the way her characters do. Maybe that was her intention but I am unable to fathom it. I can take it in small doses but large doses make me sick! Maybe I am in the minority.

    I've never even tried reading any of her work. I've never had the desire too lol.

    I know just what you mean. I didn't have any trouble with Orlando but small doses was the only way I could finish Mrs Dalloway. After that I'm not really inclined to try any of her others!

    Oh! seconded! I didn't even think of her, because I only had to read A Room of One's Own for a class. I keep thinking I'll read Mrs. Dalloway... sometime, and then decide whether I can't stand Virginia Woolf.

    Also, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf terrified me when I saw it.

    I've had sort of the same experience with Virginia Woolf. The only ones I've really enjoyed are To the Lighthouse and Orlando(which I loved!). Most of her other works are just too hard to struggle through.

    I am not too familiar with Virginia Wolfe she is hard to get into. I did try reading A Room of Ones Own but never made it all the way.I don't believe it is the era she is from I am almost 50 and she was a selection in high school for reports for many years she is just a deep intellect I could never get into!
