What’s the saddest book you’ve read recently?
The Crying Tree by Naseem RakhaThe death warrant arrived that morning, packaged in a large white envelope marked confidential and addressed to Tab Mason, Superintendent, Oregon State Penitentiary.
Irene and Nate Stanley's son Shep, has been murdered in their Oregon home, apparently in a robbery. A nineteen year old man Daniel Robbin gives himself up for the said murder and after nineteen years he is given the death sentence, that is to die by lethal injection.
With as difficult as subject like this, it can only be a sad book. That didn't stop me from liking it. I consider it one of my best reads of 2009. Click on the title to read my review.
That's an interesting sounding book.
ReplyDeleteI've read a few reviews of this book--I think I need to read it.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does seem like a sad and serious book. When I'm up for more crying I will definitely keep it in mind.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic title!
ReplyDeleteThat does sound like a sad one but it also sounds good. I just won this book so now I'm definitely looking forward to it knowing it was one of your favorite reads this year.
ReplyDeleteWow, this sounds like a powerful one.
ReplyDeleteI MUST read The Crying Tree! I have it so yippee for me :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this one....I need to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI've been a sucker of tear-jerker, both books and movies. I've got Marley and Me and The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. Now I have to check this one out.
ReplyDeleteI took up Simon's recommendation of In Cold Blood and I might as well check out yours. :)
I have heard of this one, & I need to put it on my list since its one you've enjoyed so much!
ReplyDeleteWow this has to be a hard one.
ReplyDeleteThat does sound like an especially sad one! Glad you enjoyed it - it would probably be a little too intense for me.
ReplyDeleteYou're right - sad can definitely equal good.
ReplyDeleteI have this and still have not read it, but it sounds so good.
ReplyDeleteI really, really want to read this one!! Thanks for reminding me!
ReplyDeleteTruly - with a title like that!
ReplyDeleteSad can be good, too. I've read a bit too many sad books lately though, so I'm looking for something lighter next :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough it sounds sad, it sounds like an excellent read.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a cry baby that I'm usually hesitant to take on sad books. But interestingly, I've loved just about every sad book that I've come across.
ReplyDeleteI don't read sad books in general, and this one sounds like it would have me in tears. I know that I'm missing some of the best books and movies out there, but I just don't want to need tissues for things I'm reading or watching for enjoyment.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very interesting. I will have to check out half price books!
