Booking through Lies

Two-thirds of Brits have lied about reading books they haven’t. Have you? Why? What book?

I don't remember lying about a book that I haven't read. I have left a lot of books midway and never even thought of returning. But to lie about it, no.

However, I do remember fibbing to my dad that I finished all three volumes of The Feynman Lectures on Physics, when I had not. He caught me out when he set it on himself to quiz me! My brothers had a wonderful time guffawing while I was being blasted by my gentle dad!

Boy, can I ever forget that! And I think that curbed my lying about anything. Books, notwithstanding!

    A good lesson learned! I could only recall one instance of lying, too. But, yes, many books left unfinished.

    I have lots of unfinished books too but I never lie about it by saying I have finished it.

    Just like you...I lied when I was in school...I only read the review and told my teacher I have read it ;p

    I did lie about reading All the King's Men when I was in high school. I just couldn't get through the book.

    Perfect response.
    Enjoyed that one, and it made me remember the conversation with my uncle about The Bonfire of the Vanities, which my uncle recommended it to me in High school. I read it, was utterly confused at some parts and I told him I enjoyed it. I really don't think I enjoyed it.

    I haven't lied about that either but I do know the feeling of being called on something by my parents. Completely sucked.
