Friday 56: Into the Abyss by James Snyder

It was lunchtime and everyone was eating, everyone else in New York was eating, except her.

Posted foThe Friday 56, which is hosted by Freda's Voice

Title: Into The Abyss
Author: James Snyder
ASIN: B00HPBCIR0
Publisher: Bandera Publishing Company/2014
Pages: 245 pages

Connelly Pierce is all alone after her parents die. She and her older brother Eric are put into separate foster families. She is unable to cope. She meets Eric at a San Francisco emergency room when she is nine. They get separated yet again. Five years later, Connelly runs away from the foster system to find her brother.

But life is not hunky dory and there are tragic consequences of her decision. She is totally devastated and pulled into an abyss...

It is a heart wrenching novel. Connelly longs to be with her brother Erik and be a family again. For that she can go to any length. The author left the ending hanging. As it is a part of a trilogy, I expect the next one to resolve it. However, my heart broke for Connelly and Erik. The foster system did nothing for them except give them pain. Connelly has it worse by being raped by her foster father.

It sounds heart-breaking. I wish siblings could stay together in the foster system.

This looks like an emotional roller coaster, a heavy book with many ups and downs. I wonder if she'll get a happy ending.

Sounds sad! Did you know it was a trilogy when you started reading it? I hate getting to the end of a book and finding out the story isn't finished. Happy reading!

Sounds like a book with a compelling plot. I prefer books that stand alone, however, instead of cliff-hangers that compel you to buy the next one. So disappointing! Is this story worth it?

This sounds like a sad read, but then I love it when sibling relationships are explored. I hope you enjoy this one and that it isn't too sad! Thanks for stopping by :) I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Gautami,

Nice lines from what sounds like a quite emotional and heart breaking story.

I am not sure that I like the idea of the book's ending being left up in the air, thus forcing you to read the complete trilogy to ever come to a definitive ending. However, having just checked out the last part of Connelly's story, it sounds as though the wait will be worth the while!

I can't make up my mind whether I like the author's style of writing enough to embark upon reading this trilogy. Some of his books I can relate to instantly and others look as though they would be way out of my reading comfort zone. It does sound as though you enjoyed this particular story though, so I shall give it some more thought.

Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend,

Yvonne

Oh wow. From the description you provided, I definitely can see how she could fall into the abyss. It's one of those books that seems so hard to read that you don't want to -- but then, that's why you should. Adding to my TBR for later.

I'm wondering why she's not eating. I hope she has enough money. Hate to think she's homeless.

This sounds like the kind of book that would be heart breaking but would stay with you.
