Weekly Geeks: Catching up with reviews

1. In your blog, list any books you’ve read but haven’t reviewed yet. If you’re all caught up on reviews, maybe you could try this with whatever book(s) you hope to finish this week. (Be sure to leave a link to this post either in the comments of this post, or in the Mister Linky below.)

2. Ask your readers to ask you questions about any of the books they want. In your comments, not in their blogs. (Most likely, people who will ask you questions will be people who have read one of the books or know something about it because they want to read it.)

3. Later, take whichever questions you like from your comments and use them in a post about each book. Link to each blogger next to that blogger’s question(s).

4. Visit other Weekly Geeks and ask them some questions!

I usually review books as soon as I read them unless I am on a roll or read while I am travelling. That means I don't have pending reviews other than one or two. There are couple of books I have read some months back and forgot to review.

The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran
Selected Poems by Robert Lowell

Then are few books I read before my pre-blogging days and wish to review:

The Count Of Monte Christ by Alexander Dumas
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
All the works of Arthur Conan Doyle
All the works of Agatha Christie

and lot more

So folks aske me questions about those...

Hi! Myself I'm a bit ambiguous about The Kite Runner... Is it a good book giving insight to an unknown world, or is it exploiting sentiments? What do you think?

Did you enjoy The Heretic Queen? Have you read Michelle Moran's other novel, Nefertiti? If you did, how do you think they compare? Do you have a favorite? What is it about this book that you love most? (Or if you didn't like it, what didn't you like about it!)

Do you have a favorite Robert Lowell poem?

On The Count of Monte Cristo, did you read the abridged or unabridged version? Did you struggle with the pacing at all? Do you think this book is worth the effort? Would you recommend it to others? Have you read any other Dumas novels? If you have, how do you think this one compares?

On Wuthering Heights, did you enjoy this one? What is it about Heathcliff that you loved (or hated)? Who do you think will most enjoy this one?

Hi there, I'm not a weekly geek but have a book blog of my own. I have just discovered your site through Becky's Book Blog. I, too, usually review books soon after reading them, so they are fresh in my mind.

I've read several of the books on your list. As for The Kite Runner I haven't read it but did see the movie. If you've seen the movie as well, I wonder how the two compare.

Never read the Kite runner, but A thousand splendid suns, which was good but very upsetting. So, maybe I'd ask for Kite runner, but Wuthering Heights might be interesting, too.

I am curious about Michelle Moran. Did you enjoy The Heretic Queen?

I've also read The Kite Runner, The Bell Jar, and Metamorphosis and enjoyed them all. I'd like to know what you thought about Wuthering Heights. I haven't read it because 19th century women's fiction doesn't usually appeal to me. But I am doing that challenge and now have a copy-it's huge! Is it worth my time? Is it light and fluffy romance or something more substantial? And thank you so much for asking about one of my books. it gives me some incentive to write.

I'm interested in The Bell Jar. All things considered, how reliable of a narrator do you consider Sylvia Plath (as author and as narrator)? How do you think this reliability affects the book?

Did you enjoy Wuthering Heights? I found the characters so depressing! I didn't enjoy it at all. Did you like any of the characters? Who was your favourite?

Do you have trouble remembering the books you don't review right away? Do you have to go back through them?

That's quite a list.

Couple of questions:
1. I really want to read Kafka's Metamorphosis. Is it as good and thought-provoking as everyone suggests? The premise seems slightly bizarre, so...

2. Did you find The Bell Jar give you an accurate insight into Plath's life and affairs, or was it hyperbolic, as some of these books tend to be?

3. Did you enjoy Kite Runner? I personally didn't, so... If yes, what did you really like about it? Was there any bits and bobs that you didn't like?

Thanks :)

Have you read A Thousand Splendid Suns? If so, which of Hosseini's books do you prefer?

Definitely looking forward to a review about The Herectic Queen. Not too fond of historical fiction set in Egypt myself, but very curious to hear about this one.

Why do you read historical fiction? Or is this one of the few ones you've read?

In Wuthering Heights, a lot is made about the ghosts in that book. Do they play in important part of the story?

I read the Bell Jar a long long time ago, but read a Sylvia Plath short story just recently. I love the way she used language. Are there any authors you would compare her to as far as writing style?

Here is my Weekly Geeks assignment: Blood Water

I have The Kite Runner on my list to read. I'm close to the Fremont part of the story so am curious to see how the area is compared / contrasted to Afghanistan. My post is here and I'll respond to your comment tomorrow. Goodnight. :D

1. See all of Becky's questions about the Count of Monte Cristo!

2. Of all the books that you read before you started blogging what made you want to go back and review those books in particular that you listed?

I have started and put down Wuthering Heights at least five times. Why should I keep going?

On the works of Arthur Conan Doyle:
Which Sherlock Holmes story is your favorite? Why? What other works of his did you enjoy besides those about the famous Holmes?

On Wuthering Heights:
Most people prefer either "Wuthering Heights" or "Jane Eyre". Have you read "Jane Eyre" and if so, how does "Wuthering Heights" compare?

I wasn't keen on The Bell Jar - I got impatient with it. How did you get on - did you find it depressing? Have you read her poetry?

I didn't enjoy The Count of Monte Cristo: I thought all of the characters were one-dimensional, and the count himself got on my nerves. Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?

Did you read the comment left on medieval bookworm's post on Nefertiti?

Different book, but same author...how would you respond to his accusations (sour grapes?) in regards to Moran's writing?

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle -- I've read
"The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", but I was mostly ambivalent about it. Do you think I should give Holmes a second chance? If so, which story would you recommend?

Kim (Sophisticated Dorkiness) said...

Sorry if someone has asked this already -- who was your favorite character in Wuthering Heights? Least favorite? Why?

The Counte of Monte Cristo is loooooong – did you ultimately think it was worth your time? What did you enjoy the most (assuming that you did enjoy it) the adventure story, the history or the moral ideas?

What’s your favourite Sherlock Holmes story? How did you feel about the resurrection of Holmes?
